Shannon Nelson

RYT 200 Yoga Teacher, Reiki Level II Practitioner

As a child, Shannon developed an appreciation for self-introspection through her love of long distance running. It was during these quiet runs through nature that she felt most in touch with herself. Her passion for running lead her to Lehigh University, where she graduated in 2015 with a dual degree in International Relations and Spanish, and culminated her Division I running career with a Patriot League Championship title in the 3,000m Steeple Chase Race.  Shannon had always turned to running to relieve stress and anxiety, but when she began working post-college, those feelings manifested in panic attacks, depression, and physical illnesses. And that is when she turned in her running shoes for her yoga mat.

During this time, she questioned her values and was very curious about existentialism. Seeking truth and wisdom, she travelled alone to India in 2016, and enrolled herself into a month long teacher training at a Hindu Ashram. This experience transformed her life. She learned how to use yoga, the breath, and meditation to calm stress and anxiety.

For the past 3 years, Shannon has returned to the Ashram to study traditional Himalayan Hatha yoga with her teacher, Yogi Ram. She has also travelled extensively throughout Asia to increase her knowledge of Eastern philosophy. Shannon hopes to give back to her local community by teaching others the many tools of inner peace that have helped her on her own personal journey.

When she’s not practicing yoga, you can catch her photographing flowers, embracing all things fluffy, and writing poetry. Her deepest desire is to become an Artist of her mind.
