The Babywearing Coat – Part I

I love my Moby and ring sling!  They allow me to do chores or grocery shop while keeping my little Girly close, warm, and happy!

The one thing that I haven’t been able to do with these slings is walk our pup in this wintery weather.  So, I went on a Google quest for a solution and found this site to making a babywearing coat.  These instructions outline taking a coat and creating a panel that can be zipped into the front around baby.

I began this project by shopping the thrift stores for an activewear coat (all I have are wool coats).  The next step was to determine the pattern to use for your height and coat/zipper size.  The linked instructions are really detailed and to be honest, I didn’t have the patience yesterday to read through the 28-page document.  So, my husband assisted with measuring and figuring out which pattern to use and what supplies I needed to get.  After a run to the fabric store (just before closing), I now have all the supplies.  Stay tuned for my progress.

Has anyone completed any projects similar to this?  Or have advise for a newbie on sewing projects?
